2020 Idaho NGPC Report —  After a long hiatus, the West-Coast GP season got back underway for what will be a frenetic schedule of racing to close out 2020. The AMA NGPC series headed just south of Napoleon Dynamite’s home of Preston, ID for their fourth round. What awaited the riders was a pretty unique…

With the major Grand Prix circuits not currently set to race until September, many riders headed out to Glen Helen Raceway over the weekend. The weekend’s SRA Grand Prix was the first event held at the storied raceway since the lockdown period. As a result, many race-hungry participants showed up to get some racing in. One of those racers was our own Zach Bell, who decided to get some competition in to keep his fitness and skills sharp during the extended break. Numerous other WORCS Pro and Pro 2 riders entered as well, including Trevor Stewart, which made for a competitive 450 Expert event—the final race of the day…

After a long hiatus, the west-coast off-road season was back underway. The hot, dry desert of Mesquite, NV was the hosting location for the third round of the WORCS series. As always, the Mesquite race course would be a challenging combination of deep sand, some silty sections, and rough whoops. Added to the mix (because of the delayed timing on the calendar) was the forecast. An early spell of heat saw temperatures rise up to 110 degrees over the weekend. In addition, high winds made it tough to keep much moisture in the ground…

Additionally—and for the seventh year in a row—the grand prix was hit with rain…

Honolulu Hills Raceway, in Taft, CA, played host to the second round of the 2020 WORCS series. As is typical in Taft, the course developed lots of square-edged chop. This made conditions both tricky and physical for the riders to push the pace for the full two-hour pro race…

Taft can be a polarizing venue. To explain, the terrain becomes quite choppy, sometimes developing deep, square holes that litter an entire straightaway. If riders choose “good” lines—skating the edges, cutting across the chop and finding some smoother track—joy and speed can be found in that. However, if the preferred method is banging right down the main line, it can be a frustrating and taxing experience…

Primm is a popular destination on the off-road and grand prix circuit. So, in a bid to change things up, the WORCS crew made two distinct adjustments for the season opener. First, they didn’t touch up the majority of the course after Saturday’s racing. This left the track quite rough and choppy, especially by the time the pro race got underway. Second, WORCS added a pro-only section where riders had to hop over two sets of K-rails…

The Adelanto grand prix has recently become the kick-off event for the new season of grand prix racing. Held at the Adelanto stadium, the event gathers much local interest, which brings in additional race entries and spectators and gives the event a grander feel. Though the race track is somewhat simple—winding and twisting through the surrounding flat desert—the volume of racers breaks the sandy terrain down rather quickly…
