PRECISION CONCEPTS RIDERS DOMINATE ELSINORE GRAND PRIX

Precision Concepts’ Robby Bell and Justin Seeds shine at the 2015 Elsinore GP, finishing one-two in the Harvey Mushman 100, while Seeds sweeps the rest of the weekend.

The 2015 Lake Elsinore Grand Prix was officially cancelled at one point this year, as the shortage of water in Southern California meant that the traditional location could’t be used with the potential of conditions would being too dusty. The promoters scrambled to keep the event alive this year and moved the venue from downtown Lake Elsinore to the local motocross track, making for a shorter race course and quite a bit more of a man-made, motocross feel. In the marquee event of the weekend, the Harvey Mushman 100-mile pro race, Precision Concepts riders Robby Bell and Justin Seeds looked to continue their streak of wins – Seeds having won the event three years in a row (’11, ’12, & ’13), while Bell won it in ’10 and ’15.

Justin was quick off the line as the race began, taking the holeshot and sprinting to open up a small gap over the field. Said Justin, “I felt excellent off the start. I knew I needed to charge and I was able to get an early lead over [the field].” Robby started around fifth place, but was able to move into second position within the first three laps. Bell later said of the early-race conditions, “It was pretty slick in spots because they had just watered, and [the Lake Elsinore dirt] is like ice when it’s wet, so I tried to stay patient early on and not make any mistakes.”

The two quickly separated themselves from the rest of the field as Robby slowly started to close the gap to Justin. They exchanged fast lap times for the first half of the race, until Justin made a small mistake while exiting a concrete tunnel. He described the mistake by saying, “[The ground] was concrete, with water [overflowing from a nearby hose], and a little bit of dirt [on top], which didn’t mix too well. I grabbed a little too much front brake and went down.” Seeds was down just long enough for Bell to make his way by as he cleaned the mud off of his gloves, and then the two picked back up where they left off, pushing each other all the way to the finish. When the checkered flag flew, it was Robby taking his second Mushman 100 win in a row, with Justin right on his heels, making it a Precision Concepts one-two finish, and a sixth win in as many years for the team. Said Bell about his race, “It was a great battle with my teammate all race long. He was flying out front, but he made that one mistake and gave me the lead. After I got into the lead it seemed like we we had an identical pace, neither of us was willing to let up, and I had to push all the way to the finish. I’m happy I was able to get the win, and really stoked to see Justin riding so well.”

Justin entered multiple other classes over the weekend, taking the overall win in the Open event Saturday morning, the 450 race early on Sunday, and capping off the weekend in the Two-Stroke event on Sunday afternoon. Seeds later summed up his weekend by stating, “I went in the the weekend with a lot of confidence [I’ve gained] from the past few races. Obviously I wish I could have taken the Mushman win, but second’s not bad, and taking the win in all of the other events I could enter definitely felt great, especially the two-stoke race. That was probably the [most enjoyable] one for me, just ringing that thing out and watching everybody loving it.” The team hopes to keep this momentum going as it heads to Baja to support THR Motorsports’ effort at the SCORE-international, Baja 1000.
