The third round of the National Hare and Hound championship headed away from the deserts of Southern California to the silty pastures of Murphy, Idaho. Tighter trails with hanging dust would be a feature of the racecourse, making overtaking difficult, and as always a great start would be absolutely key. Ricky’s starts have been a bit unpredictable through the first two rounds and he was almost surprised when his bike fired up first kick. Said Brabec, “…it actually caught me off guard…and I sat there on the line a little longer than I should have because I was making sure it was my bike that was running.” Ricky passed through the bomb just inside the top ten and quickly began moving through the field. By check one he had made it in to second place behind Ivan Ramirez and the two battled to the finish, pulling over six minutes on third place by the end. Ricky came up just shy at the checkers, taking second place on the day, but was satisfied with his effort stating, “It was a great day of racing. Getting a great finish, knowing you did your best and tried everything you could, and didn’t make too many mistakes makes for a great day on two wheels. I’m glad to come home with second and earn solid points toward the fight for the championship with Ivan.” The second place finish keeps Ricky four points ahead of Ivan in the championship standings as the series heads back to Lucerne Valley, in Southern California, for round four in late April.
