RACE REPORT: 2016 WORCS #7 | Cedar City
BELL BACK ON THE PODIUM; SEEDS GAINS GROUND IN THE POINTS.
Cedar City, UT (May 29th, 2016) –
After such a freak DNF at the previous WORCS round in Mesquite, Robby Bell was in need of a good result to build some momentum as the points chase was suddenly very tight at the top. Bell got off to a good start, slotting into second behind Eric Yorba, and quickly got into the lead when Eric slid out. A slight mistake in a virgin “pro section” that was added for Sunday’s race let Dalton by and though Bell pushed to retaliate, in the end he settled for second on the day.
“I could feel Dalton behind me on the first lap, really pushing,” said Robby after the race, “and when I made a little mistake in the trees I opened up the door for him to make the pass. His pace was ridiculous! Dalton was going so fast and I just couldn’t quite keep close enough to him. Second’s not a bad result, and I felt really good, it was just Dalton’s day today.”
Robby now holds a four-point lead in the championship standings over Shirey as the season takes a three-month break for the summer. “I definitely have a goal to push for during this summer break.” Bell added, “Dalton’s come on so strong lately and it’s going to force me to raise my level if I want this championship. I’m looking forward to the challenge.”
Justin Seeds had a solid weekend as well, finishing sixth place in Cedar City. Justin was just inside the top ten off the start and was able to pick off a few riders early in the race before things became too spread out. Seeds closed in on the top five late in the race, but the course dried out quite a bit during two-hour pro race and the dust proved too much to overcome late-on.
“I put a decent pace down at the beginning,” Seeds said post-race, “but the dust was so bad and made it tough. After I got by Blayne [for sixth] the guys ahead of me were just a little too far ahead to reach and kind of see what they were doing and catch them. Right there at the end I started to catch Del Fante, but I got messed up in the dust, especially in the pro section, and couldn’t get close enough. I’m going into the summer break healthy and I’m gonna change some stuff up and come in strong to finish the year off.”
The result shot Justin into fourth place in the championship standings, just eight points behind third, something he’ll definitely have his sights set upon when the series restarts again in mid-September at Glen Helen.
