RACE REPORT: 2016 WORCS #2 | Primm

ROBBY BELL TAKES HIS SECOND WIN. JUSTIN SEEDS SUFFERS HARD FALL, SALVAGES POINTS.

Primm, NV (January 31st, 2016) –

The second round of the 2016 WORCS series at Stateline, NV featured a brutally rough, and fast, racecourse that took its tole on quite a few of the racers, but Rocky Mountain, Precision Concepts, Maxxis Racing’s Robby Bell was able to come out on top as the checkered flag flew. It didn’t come easy, as Robby got of to a slow start. Said Bell of his dead-engine start, “I must have kicked the bike like a bit of a nancy because she didn’t fire for me right away. It actually took me four kicks to finally get going. I didn’t panic, though, I knew it was going to be a long, physical race.”

Robby was able to methodically work his way up through the pack, and made the pass for the lead on lap six. “I got by Justin Jones, but I knew it wasn’t over. JJ always fights back and sure enough, he wicked it up to ludicrous speed and passed me back. I thought we were going to have a wicked race-long battle for the win, but unfortunately Justin landed in a hole in fourth gear after a drop off. The last thing I saw as I went by was JJ’s face kissing his front wheel with his feet up over his head.” Jones was ok, though unable to finish, and this gave Robby a little gap over second place Dalton Shirey. Dalton held tough for nearly the entire race, keeping within fifteen seconds of Robby, but finally dropped off right toward the end, giving Bell a comfortable win.

Rocky Mountain, Precision Concepts, Maxxis Racing’s Justin Seeds got off to a fantastic start, pulling the hole shot. Justin later said, “That was only the second time my bike fired up first kick in gear all weekend, so I got pretty lucky. I didn’t think I was going to get it because I darted left when it fired up, but I was able to swoop in front of Steven Gibson and get the lead.” Justin lead for a while and battled back and forth inside the top five for the first half of the race. “I had some good little battles with Colton Udall, Justin Wallis and Michael Del Fante and it’s unfortunate that the crash came when it did because with everything that happened in the race I would have been right there in a podium position.”

The crash Justin referred to came at about the halfway point of the race, effectively ending any chance of a top finish on the day. In Seeds’ own words, “It was a high-speed left-hander and I was wide open trying to gain some ground. The rear end caught something and went over the top of the berm. Somehow I saved it, but I was leaning right and shot off the track where an old course had been before and I came into a three-foot tall berm. It shot me over the bars and I did a big old cartwheel. I actually thought the bike was going to land on me, but luckily it only landed on my ankle.”

Justin’s front wheel was mangled from the impact and he was fortunate to be able to make it back to the pits to get a new wheel and salvage some points on the day. Justin later stated, “I think I’ve learned from this, I mean that’s three crashes in a row now [going back to the first rounds of WORCS and Big 6]. I think I need to ride a little smoother and let the race come to me like I have in the past.”

Justin and Robby head to Taft, CA next weekend for the second round of the BIG 6 GP series. “I’ve always liked Taft and I’ll definitely be looking to keep the momentum going,” said Bell, “but it’s not going to be easy. There are quite a few riders showing the speed to challenge for the win.”
