RACE REPORT: 2016 King of the Motos
JUSTIN MORGAN TAKES ON THE CHALLENGING CONDITIONS AT THE 2016 KING OF THE MOTOS, COMES AWAY WITH ELEVENTH.
Lucerne Valley, CA (January 31st, 2016) –
Rocky Mountain ATV/MC, Precision Concepts, Maxxis Racing’s Justin Morgan had just thrown together a brand new YZ250X mid-week and decided what better way to break it in then to head out to the 2016 King of the Motos hard enduro. Justin braved the howling wind, rain, numerous bottlenecks, and a fall that left him stuck under his bike to take ninth in the first (qualifying) race and eleventh in the finale. “I had a great time. I hadn’t ridden the bike but for maybe twenty minutes of break-in the night before I left [for the event], but it was great!”
The event offered a mass start that headed straight up a virgin hill, which had a ton of mayhem that Justin experienced first hand. “It was pretty chaotic. Everybody was looking for a line up the hill, crossing paths, it was pretty intense. I actually fell into a hole, my bike was on top of me and I couldn’t move. Luckily a trials rider came over and picked my bike up off of me. From there I was pretty much playing catch up because the first gnarly hill we got to there was the biggest bottleneck I’ve ever seen. I literally just had to shut my bike off and wait.”
Once Justin got clear of most of the carnage he caught up to a few riders and had an enjoyable back and forth battle. “I got into a group of a few pretty good guys and it was pretty fun to battle with them for and hour and a half or so. I think next time I’d do things a little differently at the bottlenecks, to get through them a little better, but I had a lot of fun. I’ll definitely be back next year, and be a lot more prepared.”
Justin’s next championship event will be the second round of the West Hare Scrambles series at Coalinga, CA on February 13/14.
