RACE REPORT: 2016 BIG 6 #1 | Adelanto

ROCKY MOUNTAIN ATV/MC, PRECISION CONCEPTS RACING TAKES THIRD AND SIXTH AT 2016 ADELANTO GP.

Adelanto, CA (January 17th, 2016) –

Coming off the back of good performances at the WORCS series opener the weekend before, Rocky Mountain ATV/MC, Precision Concepts, Maxxis Racing’s Robby Bell and Justin Seeds looked to carry that momentum into the Adelanto Grand Prix, which doubled as the series opener for the 2016 BIG 6 GP Championship.

As the race started, neither rider got the greatest jump, but it was Seeds who was able to make the most of the early chaos, slotting inside the top five through the first few corners, “I spun [off the line], but then everybody ran it down the inside, so I moved over to the outside and was able to sweep around.” Justin had some back and forth battles with Trevor Stewart and Colton Udall early on, before moving into fourth place hallway through the first lap, “I got passed by Trevor and realized I needed to pick it up so I passed him back and then came together with Colton and punted him off the track.” Seeds got right up to Mark Samuels, at the edge of the top three, and was looking for a way by when his race took a turn. “I went to the inside of a corner, trying to make the pass, and the rear end caught a square edge, swapped me sideways, and completely unloaded me.” Justin crashed hard, knocking the wind out of himself, ringing his bell slightly, and he took a minute to recover and straighten out the bike before rejoining the race.

Meanwhile Robby had started around the edge of the top fifteen and had some work to do to get up through the field. “I wheelied like a bit of a goon off the start and was buried, but I linked up with Justin Jones and followed him up through the pack through the first lap.” By the end of the first lap Robby had worked all the way up into the top five and started to close the gap on the riders ahead. He made a couple moves on Eric Yorba and Jeff Loop, moving into third, but started to succumb to a slight rear brake issue. “Toward the end of the second lap I noticed my rear brake was fading, and by the third lap it was nearly completely gone. It’s not like I needed the rear brake for the power under braking, but using it in those fast, choppy corners helps keep the back end settled so my entry speed into the corners suffered a bit.”

Justin had re-joined the race buried back, mid-pack in the second line of Pro II’s (250cc and down), but as he started to sort himself out, quickly began making moves back through the field. “I was a little dazed, but I just put my head down and pushed as hard as I could to see how far up I could get.” Justin made some great passes, especially late in the race, and was able to recover all the way up to sixth place by race end.

As Justin moved through the pack, Robby was still pushing through the brake issue and made the call that third place was better than not on the day. “I pushed for a while, and closed on the leaders slightly, but I was using a lot of energy, making mistakes and I decided not to try to keep that pace as I began to tire a little. Third’s definitely not what I was looking for coming into the weekend, but I’m happy with the recovery from the poor start and a podium is a great way to start the series.”

Robby and Justin get a week off before heading to the second round of WORCS, which will be held in Primm, NV. Both riders have enjoyed good results at Primm recently, landing on the podium twice there last year, so they’ll be looking to continue that run of form.
