Race Report: 2015 WORCS round 9 | Primm

The Primm Valley Resort and Casino was the venue for the WORCS series finale, and with Robby already having clinched the championship, all eyes were on whether Justin Seeds could make up the points deficit on Travis Coy and claim the third spot in the final championship standings.

The race couldn’t have gotten off to a better start for both of the Precision Concepts riders, as they were one-two through the first corner. A hard-charging Gary Sutherlin and Justin Jones made their way by Seeds early in the first lap, and Jones carried that momentum all the way up to Robby, passing him for the lead.

Halfway through the race Robby was just behind Jones out front, while Seeds had closed in on Sutherlin and was pressuring for third place. Justin needed to beat Travis Coy by four points to claim the final podium position in the championship, and needed to pass for third place as Coy was running sixth at the time.

Robby was able to make the move on Jones out front, making the pass in the pits as Robby’s crew got him in and out in a hurry, and began to stretch a bit of a lead. Jones was starting to loose a little pace and fell into the clutches of Gary, with Seeds not too far behind. Gary made his way by and Justin pushed hard for the pass on Jones as the laps wound down, and with just a lap to go, Justin was able to make the pass for third, and would hold on to the finish.

Jones suffered a mechanical failure on the final lap, dropping out of the race and bumping Coy to fifth in the process. This still would have been enough for Justin to finish third in points, but unfortunately for Justin, Travis’ teammate, Eric Yorba, was running fourth and made it easy for Coy to make the pass, earning the points he needed to hang on to his championship position. Though Justin wasn’t able to get that third place in the standings, it was still a fantastic day for both Precision Concepts riders, finishing first and third, respectively.
