Race Report: 2015 BITD Round 3 | Alamo
The fast, winding mountain roads of Nevada played host to the Silver State 300. With Ricky attending the Jericho Hare and Hound on the same day, Robby would need to ironman the 300 mile race to earn points for the team. Robby had drawn first starting position, as the motorcycles would leave the line one at a time every minute, which would be quite an advantage with the thick morning dust. Robby quickly opened up a lead over Tallon Taylor, who started in second position for the Purvines Beta team, but ran into a bit of trouble just after pit one. Said Bell, “The morning sun was just coming up and the course was heading straight into it. I was in a rocky sand wash and just as I began to lift my hand to block the sun I clipped a rock and fell over.” The bike landed on an embedded rock and put a slight crack in the ignition cover, causing the motor to leak oil. The loss of oil wasn’t catastrophic and the team spent the rest of the race checking the oil level at each pit and filling when necessary. The extra downtime in the pits kept the race with Taylor close, as a few times Robby exited the pits just as the Beta was coming in, but in the final hundred miles of the race Robby was able to open up the gap to around three minutes, giving him the win on adjusted time. The win extends Robby and Ricky’s points lead in the series as the two are undefeated thus far.
